"Spiders the size of carthorses, eight-eyed, eight-legged, black, hairy, gigantic"- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
After escaping the Forbidden Forest with their lives thanks to the Ford Anglia, the boys shut Fang back into Hagrid's hut and hurried across the grounds, into the castle. Well, they hobbled really. Ron was in shock and his legs weren't exactly doing a great job of taking his weight.
Eventually, they managed to get up to the dorm. Mercifully, it was empty and they were able to collapse into bed.
They lay in silence for a while. Ron's voice had been extremely high earlier and Harry doubted he would find the courage to speak anytime soon.
Eventually he couldn't take it anymore. He had to break the tension. He had to make sure that it had all been real and not just a figment of his imagination.
"Pity we didn't have Hermione with us huh? When she wakes up I bet she'll be disappointed about missing such an educational experience!"
The joke must have worked, because Ron started laughing. Eventually, he regained enough composure to make light of the situation too. "Just be grateful that Hagrid didn't decide to tag along in her place... he would've made us stay longer and read Aragog a couple of bed-time stories..."
Harry chuckled more than he should have at that one, true as it was.
