When Cisco dies, Hartley doesn't take no for an answer and devises his own plan to bring Cisco back at any cost.

When Barry gets a bomb slapped on him by the Trickster, it's left up to Hartley to save the day while Barry re-enacts the movie Speed. And Hartley does a great job. A better than great job, considering he managed to get Trickster Jr. to flip sides. But he also gets hurt. Just a little, but that doesn't make Cisco feel better at the sight of his arm in a sling. Cisco hasn't had a vacation since before the accelerator exploded. Which Hartley has decided is a problem needing remedying. He needs to be shirtless on a beach with a fruity drink stat, and not just because Hartley wants an excuse to ogle his boyfriend in swim trunks. But first they have to actually get there. (AU)
Cisco discovers that Hartley knows a few more languages than advertised. Including Klingon. ("It's supposed to mean 'we should feast' right? I didn't just butcher the pronunciation, did I?" Hartley shook his head and then, slowly and unsure, he said, "did you just call me handsome?")

Hartley's health hasn't been the greatest lately and he comes back from a week off to find a new guy on his project who is most definitely not a senior level mechanical engineer with several years of experience like Hartley'd asked Harrison to hire. But it turns out Cisco Ramon is absolutely the guy Hartley wants around when an already bad day winds up going straight to hell.
The first rose is waiting for Cisco when he gets home from work, tucked into the handle of his front door.

He's less than thrilled, however, to learn one of his competitors on the show is going to be his former high school rival, Hartley Rathaway.

In retrospect, letting Hartley join their group gloat after imprisoning Eobard Thawne in the pipeline might've been a mistake. But considering how hilarious the results were, no one but Eobard Thawne is really complaining. (Season 1 AU)
