The original story has been tugging at me for some time because the teenage me that wrote that version didn't yet know "what life was all about." I think I have a better understanding now. Yes there is a major character death, but the story is how both Kid and Heyes navigate that path. Their struggles are not the same but their bond ties them both together.
This short story was inspired by a comment Heyes made to Kid in "How to Rob a Bank in One Hard Lesson", being stuck and with the sister in Carson City.

Kid and Heyes find themselves in a spot of bother in a small town. A mix of humour and angst. A small diversion from my other tale! Yes, I think you can probably work out where my interest lies.
Just a little bit of Christmas fluff.
