A being comes to earth to investigate a way to quell the creatures on the planet. The Abbott Family attempt to seek her out to better their chances of survival. As the family and this being learn from each other, another familiar survivor, Emmett, joins the family to add to their chances of survival. His heart has hardened from loss, but he finds a new purpose in the being.
