  • My Hero Bares his Nerves

They chase him into the waking realm, like bloodhounds on a trail or ducks following their mother. Harry/Ginny. Hermione/Ron.

  • all that remains

"We've reached the endgame," Severus says to Albus with a gesture to the chessboard. Albus hums in agreement.

  • what's a boy to do

  • oceans between

Sirius' grin is almost audible. "Look outside, Remus." SBRM. College AU.

  • never again to be all alone

"Sirius," he begins, then stops. He looks so lost that Sirius takes a another step closer. It catches Remus' attention. He frowns sternly at Sirius, but the look in his eyes is sad. A moment later his whole face softens to a gentle grief. "Sirius. I'm so sorry."

  • fuse is fireside

Ron goes home after the war. It's, in a word, anticlimactic.

  • pedaling backwards

James Sirius Potter spends his first Christmas away from his family at Hogwarts, but completely alone. For one, a few of his friends has stayed. For another, his dad is there too.

  • like me they long

The worst thing about Voldemort finding out that Harry is a Horcrux, weirdly enough, is how protective he is. With only Harry and Nagini left, Voldemort goes to great lengths to ensure their comfort and safety. He checks in every night like an overbearing boyfriend. Harry and Nagini deal. Crack.

  • just like picket fences

"Of course," Tom says agreeably. "But you keep making these mistakes. If I didn't know better I would think you've fallen for me." TMRHP, time travel.

  • we're on each other's team

It starts because of something Dean Thomas says a week into their first year. "Oh hey," Dean says, twisting around in his seat in front of the Patil twins. "Do you guys actually have twin telepathy? Is that a thing?"

  • something so wholesome

Sirius scowls, but he and James had a pact of complete honesty with each other after the incident with the Giant Squid. "She said that I'm a better boyfriend to Moony than to her." James sits up straight, a satisfied look on his face, "Have you ever considered that she's right?" SBRM. Marauder Era.

  • stay for the night

His mother purses her lips, uncharacteristically expressive as she reaches out once more to fuss with the collar of Draco's dress shirt. "I don't understand why you feel that you need to go visit him," she says. "Neither do I," Draco replies honestly, "but I want to anyway." HPDM. EWE.

  • breakfast at the heartbreak hotel

Severus watches her for a second. "I wouldn't know. I haven't been close to her since about fifth year." Petunia nods like she understands. Maybe she does. She used to be close to Lily as well. It's partly why they're here, mourning the loss of a part of Lily that used to be theirs, and won't be in a few days. SS/PD.

  • in my heart there swells a song

Harry presses the keys of the club piano without having to look at the sheet music, having done this song with the band so many times before. Instead he looks across the stage, past the bright lights. In the darkest corner of the club, a man with his jacket off and sleeves rolled up watches intently. WW2 AU. HPLV.

  • when you fall asleep

Recently the news has been talking about the quarantine sites for the Infected and how some of the poorer countries have been having trouble containing them. It just makes me nervous. I'd rather be closer to civilisation if something happens. Not that I'd rather be with the Dursley's if the world goes to hell. Zombie AU.

  • picture me there

Harry groans, rubbing his face with one hand. In the other he clutches onto his phone, the screen showing a blurry picture of a blond man with his arm wrapped around Harry's neck, smirking. His phone is asking Harry if he's sure he wants to delete it. Harry's thumb hovers over the 'delete,' trembling.

  • to dash against darkness

"Harry," he says, hands dropping from the curtain. Harry is dressed in a ratty old button-up that looks much too big on him. Viktor frowns, but decides not to comment. Instead, he holds out his hand, palm up, and beckons Harry to come closer. Viktor Krum/Harry Potter.

  • straightforwardly, without complexities

Everyone laughs. Hermione notices Ron giving Harry a meaningful look, one of his eyebrows raising. Harry shrugs bashfully in response, eyes flicking off to the side. His face becomes red. Ron snorts, shaking his head as he looked back at his food. Before Hermione can ask Ron what that was about, Percy asks her about what she thinks of the new memo system at the Ministry.

  • permit me the present tense

Molly the Second is not the only child of her generation to be named after someone from the past. She is one of the few to be named after someone still alive though, but that's as interesting as it gets. At sixteen, Molly hates being second.

  • a clean knife

"Watch closely," his mother says, drawing Severus' focus back to her. She stirs counterclockwise once, twice, thrice. Pauses. Pokes at the Bluebell flame underneath the cauldron with her wand to make it grow bigger, grow hotter. The potion's bubbling increases, and then she continues stirring in odd, almost indecipherable patterns.
