The Kingdom of Hyrule had been preparing for Ganon's return since Zelda was only months old. But a now grown-up Zelda stood, well sat, collapsed on the ground of a Neculdian field with the man she loved bleeding out in her arms. There had never been a Zelda who'd failed, a Link who allowed darkness to reign, but Hyrule had fallen dead. The fight had been lost.
In which the secret ongoing scandals of the Royal Family are abruptly revealed and Link can't stop from tripping over himself. This is what he was born to do, wasn't it? Keep Her Divine Highness safe? Then where is it so complicated to do just that?
In an attempt to sort out his feelings and show his appreciation for Link, Linebeck writes him a letter- only to regret it the moment he sends it, his already-present anxiety worsening further.
Post OOT: After being sent to regain his lost years, Link finds himself a different man. Not only that but his best friend, Navi, is also missing. Instead of searching, he finds work at Lon Lon Ranch until he ends up being recruited as a Knight of Hyrule after accidentally saving the Captain. It's there his grudge awakes once more. The Rito collect shiny things to try and get a mate. It's a fact that is seen in the young Rito, presenting each other with shiny rocks and jewelry to please each other. Link's earrings make his heart ache in a way he doesn't understand.

The first time Zelda saw Link get a memory flashback, she thought he'd had a stroke. In which Link opens up to Zelda about his frustrations with amnesia. Post-BotW. Zelink if you squint a little.
It was no surprise that Link, prodigy swordsman hated for his skill, drew the Master Sword. He was marked a herald of doom, and the kingdom turned against him. How can he fulfill the impossible expectations placed upon his shoulders when the anguish of loneliness interferes with his orders, and the Princess he is commanded to protect thwarts his every effort? T for violence.
The chosen hero doesn’t get to choose his own life. It was forced on him, and it always will be, no matter how many times he’s reborn. Having the “spirit of the hero” comes with its own side effects; namely, the ghosts of memories that haunt him every night.
