It killed Harry to end things with Ginny after Dumbledore's death, but it was what he had to do to do to protect her. He swore to himself that he would focus only on horcruxes until Voldemort was dead- and there was no room for romance or attachment in his plan. Unfortunately, this vision becomes slightly skewed when he's told he's about to become a father, days before leaving.
