A Painted Gesture

Maybe because he wanted this to be true. He wanted it to be his friend who took the time to erase the marks of violence, and paint them over with glaring colours of national pride. He wanted it to be the man he once knew that took it upon himself to make sure that precious metal would be beautiful and clean.
