Written for the novel Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson. What if Bernard Taverner never did die when he supposedly drowned but was "rescued" downstream by an enemy tribe? Bernard's musings on captivity, home, and family. I wrote this in fifth grade before I even knew fanfiction was a thing and recently decided to freshen it up and post.
