Ron wanted to go back and change the future for the better, deciding to drag along Harry and Draco for the ride to help him out. (Without asking, naturally. Better to beg forgiveness than permission, right?) Throw in the fact that Harry and Draco somehow switched bodies during the magical journey to the past, and it's a potential disaster in the making.
