Rosalie warned them, she didn't tell them what would happen but she warned them not to inhale it. It was meant to stop one specific Wessen but as it turns out, it has a whole other set of effects on Blutbadden and Grimms. Monroe thinks that this makes everything awkward but it all works out for the best in the end.
