After the events that happened in the Chamber of Secrets, Ginny and Hermione decide they're tired of waiting for Harry and Ron to say they fancy the girls. Hermione tells Ron she likes him and wants him as her boyfriend. Ginny does the same with Harry; but there's more to their relationship; their minds have become linked together after Ginny was possessed by Tom Riddle.
