They were tricked. Tricked into believing that once Voldemort is gotten rid of, the war would come to and end and peace would find its way. And everyone did believe it. Or maybe they just pretended to believe it because there simply was no hope if they didn't. But in the end, they were tricked indeed. And to be honest, Hermione had never felt more stupid in her life.
