Happy endings to sad books

Have you ever read a book that's just so sad that until you can get it off your mind, you're just not yourself? The normally Happiest Girl in the World has, but Skullboy has yet to finish such a powerful book. Mentions "Where the Red Fern Grows" if you haven't read it, it makes some references to the book, but it shouldn't be too hard to understand.
