Seventeen-year-old Sayra and her dragon, Beruus, are one of Eragon's best Rider and dragon pairs on his island. The two are chosen as masters of a new Rider and his dragon, which makes everyone else on the island jealous, including their longtime friends Lucas and his dragon Halcyon. Sayra is forced to figure out who she loves more: her status, her dragon, or Lucas.
