Mathew loved his adopted family, he loves the shrine and he loves Mythology. So naturally, he did not hesitate to throw himself down the well to save Kagome when something pulled her in. Bound in this new world of myth and magic and monsters, he does whatever he can to protect his family and save all he can from the misery so common place.
