Dumbledore thought it was a brilliant plan to create a respawn point during Harry's fourth year, so that he could try again in the event of his death. What he hadn't counted on was being trapped in an infinite time loop with a teenager intent on grinding side-quests and hunting achievements rather than fulfilling his destiny.
