Sirius would smile nervously and stress the word 'friend' when discussing Lily. He didn't know why. Nothing had happened at all outside of the 'friend' box. It could only mean that he wanted something to happen. And that's what made him nervous. Because when he wanted something, he usually got it. And apparently he wanted Lily Evans.
