Return through the Wardrobe

After the hunt of the White Stag and falling back through the wardrobe back into England, what if the Pevensies immediately tried to return to Narnia? What if it worked? How long will they have been away? Who did they leave behind? What has happened in Narnia during those few moments during which they stumbled into the Spare Room?
