The Dothraki are many things, but one word in particular can describe their methods: harsh. Children with imperfections are left to die, mistakes are punished heavily, slaves viewed as little more than working animals. Vorsak is lucky his father won him the right not to be abandoned at birth. But now he is gone, so the boy has to fend for himself. Worldbuilding abounds.
