Narcissa being around leads to Draco not alienating Harry when they first meet. This leads to Harry accepting Draco's offer of friendship. In order to not alienate him, Draco decides to tolerate Hermione on their compartment when she shows up. Somehow discussion on houses comes up. The result is obvious.
