It was undoubtedly the most twisted thing he had ever done. He, the all-powerful Dark Lord Voldemort, had found a way to not only make a living, breathing human Horcrux, but to also carry on the Gaunt (and therefore Slytherin) lineage. He would make these children his Horcruxes.
