In 1979, Regulus Black stole the Dark Lord's horcrux and swore he would destroy it. He went into hiding. He left his life behind. He destroyed the locket. In 1992, Regulus Black discovers that the Dark Lord isn't dead. Not quite alive, but certainly not dead. He goes back home, and finds his entire world turned upside down.
