Mattie was unable to be in attendance at their wedding and, for the longest time, Lucien and Jean just couldn't figure out the reason. On their return from their honeymoon, however, they receive an explanation from her in a letter that changes their lives completely. She could quite possibly have given them the best wedding present they could have received.
