Fourteen-year-old Dimitri finds a child, Rose, in the forest - scared and running away from something. Dimitri swears to protect her, and fails as she gets taken away. A decade later he has joined the Division, a group of elite guardians sent to retrieve the taken ones, and continues his search for Rose. Rose grows up in an Institution, suffering from a strange sickness.
