Itachi had done many things in his life that he wasn't proud of. No matter how one tried to justify it, he had committed unforgivable crimes in the name of what he thought was right, and in the end, all that hadn't even contributed to making Sasuke's life any better. He might not deserve this second chance, but now that he was already in the past, he intended to change everything.
