DCAMU. Post-Apokolis War: Contains inevitable spoilers. The war against Darkseid ended horribly, absolutely horribly. So horrible in fact, that a new timeline had to be created. Barry did not want to open his eyes at first, fearing that this new timeline would end just like the rest. He had to open them eventually though, and not long after that did he fall down the rabbit hole.
