Summary
Federation convoy must rescue inhabitants of several plants from destruction. Convoy must pass through Romulan space on the eve of massive Federation-Romulan war to reach planets. Personal stories of people desperate to escape from their dying world. A retired combat-wounded veteran is recalled to active duty to lead the convoy.
