Being alone sucks. Being alone and a Hiccup, even worse. Aside from his father Stoick, his mentor Gobber and a few other adults, he is alone. The shadow is a part of a person's mind, where everything we don't like is hidden. Fate condemned Hiccup to be alone, to have no friends. However, Fate can be merciful and not all shadows are black.
