Summary
The palace is in angry, betrayed chaos. Maxon is woken up the day after dancing with America to find out from his father that Marlee Tames committed high treason against Illéa. He requests one last audience with her and saves her from death by giving her a merciful, more deeply personal punishment: the caning.
