After successfully tricking the Germans in believing a British Commando had dropped right into the camp, using an empty parachute, Hogan and his men in Stalag 13 have to assemble for a surprise roll-call. The Germans led by Kommandant Klink try to find the paratrooper in their camp.

The end of the war was getting closer; the Allied troops made daily progress in marching into enemy territory. The prisoners at Luft-Stalag 13 on the outskirts of Hammelburg, which was near Dusseldorf, were all excited and antsy. Their senior POW officer Colonel Robert Hogan of the USAAF also known as Papa Bear to the underground, was on a solo mission and it turned sour.

An accident caused by the new guy has dire consequences for Colonel Hogan, whose future in the Army Air Corps looks very grim now, due to the serious injuries he is suffering from. His core team and even Klink and Schultz worry deeply for this honorable, brave man, whose luck seemed to have finally run out.

The crew of Hammersley, now with a new coxswain is out again on patrol. After two weeks out at sea, the routine patrol turns into a real adventure. A big storm hits the northern part of Queensland and the Hammersley helps out in the aftermath. While the crew is out helping trapped boaters, CO Mike Flynn coordinates a combined search from the Navy and the local FD. It ends badly.
