Events conspire so that Snape has to take charge of Harry during the summer after Third Year. Snape is a bitter, malicious bastard and isn't bound to play by the rules. Things have to get worse before they can get better, and Snape takes precautions to make sure he doesn't see anything unexpected. Lots of brooding, lots of angst. Why is Harry so fun to hurt?
