Mnemosyne's Elegy

  • Worth a Thousand Words

A collection of short stories and drabbles based on one-word prompts. Various characters and genres, but predominantly angsty and Gray-centric. Current: Ossify—And in that last heartbeat before the ice overtakes him, he wonders if he was the demon all along.

  • Zero Out

Hiyori's end comes on slowly, but much too fast. Yato is no one's savior, and he can't rescue her. And when Yukine demands that he name her instead, he can't explain why that would kill them all. With Yukine putting all the blame squarely on his shoulders, Yato might lose them both in the end anyway.

  • The Sighted

Juvia has the foresight to realize Gray shouldn't be alone after his father's "death", but not enough to stop him from disappearing in the night. Gray is walking blind, one foot over the edge, and he's bound to fall eventually. And in hindsight, Erza should have known that sending Gray into Avatar was inviting disaster.

  • Second Chances

Each shinki who helps with Yukine's ablution has their own reasons. Yato has given them their own second chances, and they are willing to repay those favors to give Yukine his second chance too.

  • Priorities

When a job goes wrong, Natsu has to prioritize Gray's life and leave his scarf behind. And while he would like to get it back right away, Gray is a mess and the dark guild seems to have vanished into thin air. He doesn't regret it, exactly, because there are more important things. But he wants it back, and so does Gray.

  • Quicksilver

Yato loves his father and always has. That's why he understands from a young age that love is fickle and treacherous. Love is capricious by nature, and that's just the way it is. He's never known any other kind. And if he's mercurial himself, then he learned from the best.

  • Changeling

It seems like a great thing when a new ice mage joins the guild, at least until Gray's health starts deteriorating and the new girl begins taking his place on the team. Gray doesn't want to be replaced. And with Porlyusica warning he risks death if he doesn't figure out what is sapping his magic, it's a race against the clock and Gray's on his own.

  • Knells of Futures Past

When Yukine refuses to go on a routine housekeeping job after an argument, Yato of course gets himself into trouble and needs rescuing. Yukine is almost too late, and it finally hits home, what happened to Ebisu before. He's plagued by nightmares of what it would mean for Yato to reincarnate. Yato, of course, doesn't get it at all.

  • Flashback

Rufus is looking to make a scene, and the flashiest way to disable an opponent is to drag out their most crippling memories. Gray has plenty of heartbreaking ones to spare.

  • Debts Forgiven

Kazuma never did understand Yato, but that doesn't mean he didn't try. He keeps coming back through the years, looking for a way to repay the life-debt he owes. He never quite feels like he manages, but he learns a lot along the way as he watches Yato transform from a magatsukami to something else entirely.

  • Unto the Sea

Lyon is content with his ordinary, boring life, but everything changes when he meets a legend one night on the beach. Now there's an injured, beautiful, but strangely voiceless selkie in his home, and it's up to him to help her...and maybe break a curse. He might even fall in love along the way, but it's dangerous to love a creature whose heart belongs first to the sea.

  • White Noise

The whirring of the chainsaw settles into C.C.'s brain, a constant dull roar that is driving her insane. So she does the only logical thing: goes out and buys a chainsaw.

  • Two Paths Diverged

C.C. isn't mad at Lelouch, not exactly—not yet—but a tight feeling wraps around her lungs and crushes them in until the air is thin and she is drowning. Why does he get to die when he demanded she didn't?

  • White Knight

Suzaku's hands are still trembling and stained with blood when he makes his escape and runs into C.C. Lelouch was a liar right up to the end, but C.C. has no reservations about twisting the knife now that he's gone and Suzaku is taking his place

  • To the Bitter End

Lelouch wanders the halls on the eve of the Zero Requiem to clear his head and finds C.C. listening to something he thought long gone. And he wonders again why she still stays even knowing that he will never fulfill his contract.

  • For Darkness Shows the Stars

For as long as he can remember, Yugi has always been scared of the dark. Can a talk with Yami change that? Or does anything need to be changed after all?

  • My Own Betrayal

Just another cliché story about Yami losing Yugi to the Seal of the Orichalcos, and the aftermath.

  • How to Lose a Life

Yugi can't imagine living without Atem anymore, but the Pharaoh has to return to the afterlife, and there is no way for Yugi to stay with him. Or is there? If only Yugi knew all the consequences when he made his choice. This is a less cliché take on the cliché story of Yugi following Atem into the afterlife. A What-If one shot.

  • Blinded

Bakura has finally defeated the Pharaoh and gotten his revenge for the destruction of his people so many millennia ago. He has finally won. Or has he? An alternate take on the ending of Memory World. A What-If one shot.

  • Remembering to Forget

It is a sad existence indeed that is based upon the need to remember to forget. But perhaps the problem is that it is sometimes all too easy to forget to remember. An alternate view on Yami's memory loss. A What-If one shot.
