The second war is not going well for either shadowhunters or wizards, with Valentine's defeat on the boat and Voldemort's defeat at the Ministry doing very little to end the struggle. When Voldemort learns of Clary and Jace's strange gifts, he sends his Death Eaters after them, and Dumbledore has no choice but to bring them to Hogwarts.
