[Soulmate AU] Mahiru Koizumi sort of hoped that her soulmate was a girl. She just couldn't imagine a scenario where she would be happy with a male soulmate. A female soulmate would be nice. It would be easy. But, as she finds out while on a photography cruise with her mother, "easy" isn't something that fate seems to have in mind.

[Soulmate AU] The girl sat up among the towels and pinned Mikan with a sharp crimson glare. "What's wrong with you? Do you want to die?" "Yessss, I'm so sorry, I'll just go ahead and die now—!" The other girl blinked at Mikan, dumbfounded, as if that was the last thing she had expected to hear in response to her threat.

AU. Kibougaoka wasn't the ideal place, but it wasn't bad. Its residents had all mostly settled for unremarkable but comfortable lives, not actively seeking out change but welcoming it if it came. For police officer Hajime Hinata, change comes in the form of a baby-faced, foul-mouthed gangster. (Kuzuhina, possible other ships, rating may change later)
