The history of Mossflower continues into a distant future beyond the reckoning of its most well-known inhabitants, a future where the battle tactics of yesteryear are pitted against advancements in technology of modernity and are found wanting. Against the invaders who seek Mossflower for their own, Mossflower's residents must band together or perish in The Great War. (WW1 in AU.)

A continuation of "Excessive Zeal", which can be considered a prologue to this main story. Now at the crossroads of the event which has changed both their lives forever and dashed their naive views of the world, Bramble and Dachlan must find their place in the world.
