Cato is a big dumb boy with big dumb hands and a big dumb brain. His parents ignore him, his teachers sigh at him, and school is hard and sitting still is hard and he's not good at anything. Except at the Centre, where he doesn't have to read or sit and the trainers give him cookies and no one yells at him for being stupid or loud or clumsy.
Brutus and new-victor Lyme go on a date at the behest of their mentors. It really, really does not go well, but maybe that's okay.
Brutus falls down a mountain and hauls himself back on a broken leg, because A Man Does Not Ask For Help. Lyme's gonna make him wish he just picked up the damn phone.
Finnick Odair kills the girl from Two an unprecedented three days into the 65th, and for once Brutus doesn't want to deal with it alone. The good news is, he doesn't have to. (prompt: Brutus and the other victors watching crappy Capitol movies)
(Six weeks after Brutus carries Petra from the car to her new home in the Victors' Village, she asks him to kill her.) A mentor should always know what to do. But twenty years of experience don't mean anything when Brutus' girl comes home after the all-maces year with a shattered pelvis and empty eyes.

Before rebel and renegade, between victor and mentor, Lyme was in recovery: angry, bitter, confused and lost, a trained killer without a purpose. Nero, her mentor, has his work cut out for him - especially since not all ghosts come from the Arena. Comes after Sugar & Spice & Everything Nice.
After years of teasing Lyme and Brutus for their horror at the Capitol thinking they're a couple, their Victors start to wonder if maybe the rumours aren't true after all.
The third night of the Quarter Quell, Katniss Everdeen fires an arrow and brings down the force field. Brutus is dead; Enobaria is still in the Arena; and Lyme has turned traitor, disappearing without word, leaving their respective Victors and mentors reeling.
["The price of celebrity," says Beetee. "We were targeted from both sides. The Capitol killed the victors they suspected of being rebels. The rebels killed those they thought to be allied with the Capitol." - Mockingjay, Chapter 26.] Ronan, District 2's first Career Victor, and Petra, its youngest, are in the Capitol when it falls.
[COMPLETE] District 2 Victor Lyme, two years fresh from the Arena, gets her first tribute to mentor. Claudius, from District 2, has never liked the dark. As a child his mother punished him by locking him in closets; after he escapes to the Career Centre it happens again, once as a hazing and once in training. Years later he follows Lyme to District 13 and ends up trapped forty levels underground as bombs fall above him; life is fun like that. At least this time he's not alone.
Claudius is new to the District 2 Victors' Village, but luckily the other Victors are there to help him out. But Victors are Victors after all, and after a while Claudius starts to wonder how much of their 'advice' is real. In which the Village's resident pranksters haze their newest Victor, but it's all in fun. Slice of life, family dynamics, and finding your place among friends.
Brutus has pulled himself a second Victor, but mentoring doesn't end with the trumpets. The best part is helping them decide the person they want to become after they wash away the blood.
[COMPLETE] When the Victor Games are announced, District 2 must send its heroes along with the rest of them. Brutus hopes doing his duty will silence the voices telling him this is wrong; Enobaria wants to burn the traitor Mockingjay for bringing this on people who only ever followed orders. Lyme needs to make it through without stabbing President Snow in the eye.
The good thing about being a Career mentor is you get to choose your tribute; the downside to being a Career mentor is you get to choose your tribute. The girl Lyme picks for the 73rd is familiar to her, too, but not because she's met her before. Not exactly. Companion to "District Two, Male"
Katniss dies, and Rue wins the 74th Hunger Games. Prim will never forgive the girl who took her sister ... except maybe she will. Maybe Rue isn't the one to blame after all. The genesis of a revolution in four notes. (SHIP SWAP 2014)
