Yet more surprising still – and more troubling – is the subsequent appearance of someone she knew to be dead. A promise has been kept, but at what cost?
She was borrowed from the Western Division to train with them; after the Battle for Trost, she joined the Garrison. Now, the one person Jean hoped never to see again has somehow transferred to the Scouting Legion. Through it all, Mercedes Carello has remained unchanged - he still can't tell what she may be hiding or why. But to shed light on her, he must shed light on himself.
One-shot, New Year's special. Mercedes' birthday is in less than three days and Armin has suggested to Jean that he get her a present. Jean, however, has no idea what to get her, despite the entire Corps - even Levi and Commander Erwin - being eager to make suggestions.
