He never really said anything about the day. Didn't think it was that important. Just another day on the calendar. Another year gone full of violence and death and pain with a few fleeting moments of happiness. There was no reason to celebrate and no reason to even care aside from Sam's usual Happy Birthday Dean. But apparently no one had explained that to his angel.
He could almost hear the mark whispering promises of him burning once more and how this time an angel wouldn't find him in time. Dean gritted his teeth and rubbed his hand over it. Everything inside him was screaming at him to hide it from everyone.
But with grace flowing through him once more the angel found himself wishing for the chaotic emotions and experiences he'd suffered as a human. Anything to stop him from seeing the pain flaring through Dean Winchester's soul. (Coda for 9.10)
