when an acquaintance of Harry's comes to the dark lords attention at his rebirth Voldemort offers a chance for Harry to leave the grave yard alive after his resurrection. Voldemort sees potential in Harry but does Harry live up to it.

Harry is abandoned at an orphanage when his relatives can't handle any more. being abandoned at the orphanage stamped out Harry's innocence and hope and he enters the magical bitter and jaded. He wont trust but Lucius Malfoy see's it beneficial to do so.
