The week after Eliza and William are reacquainted after a month's estrangement, Eliza has him and two friends over for dinner. The next night William takes Eliza dancing, with Detective Colin Bremond along for support. Eliza and William both attract unwanted attention in the ballroom, as they try to navigate dancing, etiquette, haughty women and their growing attraction.

A direct sequel to the cliffhanger of Heart Quake, Eliza and William have been estranged for several weeks, but are making the most of their time apart. Destiny brings them together again, but not exactly in a way that either of them would have chosen. Plus, there are two crimes to solve at the Alhambra Theatre of Varieties.
