For the 2022 Speedwriting contest. LeBeau, not long after the war, meets an old fried by chance in the streets of Paris. He loses something he had never really had. And learns something he hadn't expected.

Episode reworking of 'The Darkest Hour.' A blood sacrifice to tear the veil, a blood sacrifice to mend it. Arthur knew his duty to his people, and he'd been grimly ready to do what needed to be done. But when he sees a way out... is it really so very selfish of him to take another option when one is offered? Does Camelot need a living king or a dead hero?

Arthur had forgiven the magic. He'd forgiven the lies, the deception, the terrible mistakes that could never be made right. He'd forgiven all of it. But this... this was beyond forgiveness. AU; post-Camlann.

Working in a chain cafe is no way to spend eternity, but Merlin's too tired to even think about trying for something better. Striking up a conversation with the frantic student who's been camping in the corner for most of the day is just one more way of killing time. He wasn't expecting a crash course in medieval lit. Or redemption. Sometimes poetry really is the answer. Who knew?

There was a great deal more to Alfie Burke than appeared on the surface, and his association with a young Peter Newkirk encompassed far more than a single bank job. Newkirk had known him much better then he'd tried to let on to the other heroes. Except for the fact that, apparently, he hadn't really known him at all. That would have to change.
