Hinky the House elf was truly not like all the other house elves. Although crafty, he always needed to be reminded to help out his Mistress, and, although young and healthy, he did not wish to carry out the simplest tasks: cleaning the mansion or preparing five course meals without punishment.

The Order of Merlin was only in part meant for the memory of young, tragic Regulus Black. At least half of it belonged to a house elf named Kreacher, a foul being made foul by his masters, who nevertheless was instrumental in the defeat of the self-styled Lord Voldemort.
