In his hometown of Honnleath, NH, Cullen confronts his younger brother Branson's inexplicable anger and the residual feelings for his high school crush. In D.C., Tharin must accept the fact that he could lose Cullen.

Stationed in Japan, Cullen Rutherford is a lonely American enlisted sailor. Tharin Trevelyan is a gregarious English teacher in Kawasaki. One chance online encounter leads to many adventures in Tokyo, bringing the two men closer. But their developing relationship dredges up Cullen's many issues, and he wavers as he considers a retreat back to his solitary life.
