The first chapter of a response to Reptilia's challenge for an H/Hr do-over fic, written in early 2009 as a palate cleanser. There's no intention of ever completing it. I'm not a fan of soulmates / soul bonds as commonly played in fanon; this shows here. If you think you recognize Mr. Grimm and a couple of his remarks, then you were a fan of English indie rock in 2009, lol.

Dumbledore died, Voldemort took control, and most of Harry's allies fled the country in search of allies. When Ron was gravely injured, Harry and Hermione continued the horcrux hunt across wartime Britain. Reckoning with the last horcrux will change everything. A post-HBP repost; Chapters 1-13 written and posted prior to publication of Deathly Hallows in 2007; rest in 2007-09.

Picks up a little more than a year after HBP. Harry, Hermione and Ron have recovered all but one of the Horcruces; Ron has been injured along the way, and Hermione has saved Harry's life at great cost. Reckoning with the last Horcrux changes everything.
