  • Truth Be Told

The death of Marie and what led to it trigger years of difficulties for Adam Cartwright and his family building the Ponderosa but with trouble holding the family together. The truth can let them move forward but it takes a long time before Ben admits it. A reader, Sylvia, gave me the ideas that culminated in this story being written. A big Thank You! to Sylvia.

  • Always With Me

Little Joe wants to go on a solo hunting trip, but he isn't as alone as he thinks.

  • What Would Adam Do?

Standing at the graveside of an old friend, Adam talks with his grandson about a story his late friend had told him about Hoss and Joe.

  • Very Much a Cartwright

Adam has a new wife who has much to learn about him, about the Ponderosa, and about being a Cartwright, but it turns out that she's a great learner as she and Adam face a number of difficulties alone and together.

  • Adam's Very Good Years

Away from the Ponderosa, Adam tries to discover his dream and his future. He will travel and meet a number of people and have some adventures. His family hears of his travels in his letters home, but their letters rarely reach him so he doesn't know of most of the changes on the Ponderosa that occur during his absence.

  • Ben and Ma

An accident and a prank by the sons lead to an unexpected result for Ben.

  • Adam's Very Bad Year

In the sixth season, Adam had bad luck in situations from Thanks for Everything Friend to the Flannel Mouthed Gun to The Search and Right Is the Fourth R and ending with Dead and Gone. He had lost Laura to Will in the previous season. You would expect so many setbacks to affect a man and this is the story that tries to explain how it might have been for him by the end of that year.

  • Adam's Very Bad Week

After the Lotta Crabtree encounter, Little Joe is angry with Adam and events increase that as well as his jealousy. Adam is angry and acts accordingly. Ben and Hoss do their best to calm the waters but it takes a crisis to bring the brothers back together again.

  • On Top of the Mountain

There are ups and downs in any family, and Adam and Elaine experience a number of those. Hoss gets to be romantic too as the story develops.

  • Just the Way They Are

Prequel set in the time period after Adam returns to the Ponderosa from college. Based quite a bit on misunderstandings, Joe harbors a lot of jealousy of Adam which affects his interactions with his oldest brother. The trip home from a cattle drive and a series of unfortunate events begin the healing of the rift between the brothers.

  • On Edge

Adam and Elaine have a number of issues to face together in this story as they get to know each other better. They always have the support of the rest of the family though whether they are facing Elaine's disapproving father, fighting in court over Jon's custody, or working to keep everyone in the family safe. Violence, and racist opinions of a character are included.

  • Discomfort Zones

Be careful for what you wish. The Cartwright brothers are sent to do another brother's task. Ben is tired of their complaining and wants them to understand what the others have to do.

  • Candy's Opinions

A short story in honor of David Canary's birthday. What is Candy's relationship with the Cartwrights and what does he think of them?

  • On the Run

The story follows the On Borrowed Time story and is about five years later. Adam faces accusations and a tragic loss, and has to flee. He and his family need to investigate to discover who is behind the things that have been done. Sexual references and violence.

  • Trapped (or Adam, Age 40)

An attempt on Adam's life is just one of many troubling events on the Ponderosa. Are they related, and who could be the mastermind behind them?

  • Obsession (or Adam, Age 39)

Adam finds his time and energy pulled in too many directions and can't satisfy anyone. He leaves on a trip but finds trouble, and trouble hits his family at home at the same time.

  • Adam's Bible (or Adam, Age 37)

There are romances and nuptials, and there are some things that Adam said to his brothers over the years in what Joe dubbed as Adam's Bible that seem to help. There is trouble for Adam and Lea too until they can work out what has come between them.

  • Nightmares (or Adam, Age 36)

As Adam's health improved after his ordeals in Italy, France, and on Devil's Island, memories began to flood his sleep causing nightmares. He needs to do something about those and his fears, but there is no easy solution to his suffering. Help comes unexpectedly from the new ramrod on the drive who is also the new foreman of the ranch. A few more surprises in the last chapters.

  • Forlorn and Lonely

Joe just doesn't understand why his whole family seems to be out to make him miserable.

  • The Mine

Ben is trapped, and it's up to his sons to get him out.
