"How ya feeling Gage?" Tony asked from the driver's side of the squad, leaning on the hood. It was John's last shift at 10 before he was reassigned to station 51. Gage hummed a reply, not really sure how he was feeling. The past couple months had gone by in a blur. "I'll let you know," Gage answered his partner's question with a smirk.
Standing in the doorway of the small Intensive Care room, Dixie silently watched as Johnny pleaded with Roy to open his eyes. Dixie silently shook her head, knowing the futility of trying to send the young paramedic home to rest but she knew she had to try.

"Least I won't get another splinter," he said.

An on-the-job injury results in a nasty concussion for Johnny that gets worse before it gets better. Roy does his best to help his stubborn best friend recover even after Johnny accidentally exasperates his condition out of a selfless notion of not wanting to complain even when he begins to feel terrible. He heard another crack from the rifle a second before he felt an agonizing, deep burn in the back of his leg. He cried out in pain as his leg gave out beneath him and he tumbled hard to the ground. Blinking back the tears of pain, he cast a quick furtive glance behind him, and saw his tormentor moving closer, getting into position for the kill.
